Leslie Raphael's Artist Statement
The process of defining patterns in nature. The fractal iterated movement of simple combinations of colors and shapes. To mirror the fluid geography of transitory elements in a space that captures the elusive quality of constant change.
I am fascinated by the interplay of: dreams, image, and reality as the environment of inner and outer worlds. The imprint of our signature pulse as the genetic code of identity.
Influences
Patterns of nature which include biological and geological cycles; all expressions of art from primitive to modern and post modern.I LOVE: JACKSON POLLOCK for 'breaking through', zeroing in on 'pulse' and taking complete command of the canvas with his signature energy and opening it up for the next step. . . collage: the simple complex layering of patterns as webs which can be traced through time and space by the origin of pulse and therefore can expand or contract in no particular order or sequence.
'Fractals, The Colors of Infinity -- How Simple Formulas Can Lead to Complicated Results' the marvelous video narrated by Arthur C. Clarke and the mathematician, Benoit Mendelbrot.
